Home / Eye Care Services / Retinal Detachment Treatment in Malad
Sudden flashes of light, a shower of new floaters, or a dark curtain creeping across your vision โ these are not symptoms to 'watch and wait' on. They can mean the retina is detaching from the back wall of the eye, and every hour of delay increases the risk of permanent vision loss.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms right now, call us immediately. Retinal detachment is treatable, and outcomes are excellent when treated within the first 24โ48 hours โ but time is the single biggest factor in how much vision is saved.
Brief, lightning-like flashes, especially in peripheral vision โ a classic warning sign.
A sudden increase in floating spots or cobweb-like shapes, different from your usual floaters.
A dark shadow or curtain progressively covering part of your field of vision.
Any sudden drop in vision, even without pain, needs same-day evaluation.

The retina is the light-sensing layer lining the back of the eye. When it detaches, or separates, from its underlying blood supply, the affected area stops functioning โ causing vision loss that becomes permanent the longer the detachment persists. It is most commonly triggered by a retinal tear, which allows fluid to seep underneath and lift the retina away.
Significantly elongated eyes are more prone to retinal thinning and tears.
Past trauma or eye surgery (including cataract surgery) raises risk.
A family history of retinal detachment increases personal risk.
Detected on dilated eye exam โ a known precursor in some patients.
Advanced diabetic retinopathy can cause traction-related detachment.
A blow to the eye can trigger a tear or detachment even if vision seems fine initially.
Retinal detachment is treated surgically โ options include laser or cryotherapy for early tears, pneumatic retinopexy, scleral buckle, or vitrectomy surgery, chosen based on the type and extent of detachment. The single biggest predictor of final vision outcome is how quickly treatment begins after symptoms start. Detachments treated within 24โ48 hours, especially before the central retina (macula) is affected, have dramatically better outcomes than those treated after days of delay.
๐จ Every hour matters. If you have flashes, floaters or a curtain over your vision, call Sentra Clinic now โ we treat retinal emergencies urgently.
Not always โ occasional floaters are common and often harmless. But a sudden new shower of floaters, new flashes of light, or a shadow/curtain in your vision should always be evaluated the same day, because these can signal a retinal tear or detachment.
Small, early retinal tears can sometimes be sealed with laser or cryotherapy before they progress to full detachment. Once the retina has detached, surgery is required.
Outcomes depend heavily on how much of the retina was detached and whether the macula (central vision) was involved, and critically, on how quickly treatment began. This is why urgent evaluation matters so much.
It is performed under anaesthesia and is a well-established procedure. As with any surgery there are risks, which your surgeon will discuss, but delaying treatment carries a far greater risk to your vision than the surgery itself.
