Training & Credentials

  • Foundation

  • Postgraduate
MS Ophthalmology — Gauhati Medical College, Guwahati (2012)
Advanced residency covering the full spectrum of ophthalmic disease, microsurgery and clinical diagnosis — including high-volume cataract and glaucoma surgical training.
  • Fellowship (UK)
FRCS — Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, UK
The Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) is one of the world's most rigorous surgical credentials. Only a small number of Indian ophthalmologists practising in Mumbai hold this qualification, making it a meaningful differentiator for patients seeking surgical expertise.
  • Fellowship (International)
ICO Fellow — International Council of Ophthalmology, UK
ICO Fellowship provides advanced training in refractive surgery and vitreo-retinal disease at an international standard — the combination with FRCS Glasgow makes Dr. Modi's credentials among the strongest in the Western Suburbs of Mumbai.
  • Leadership
Past Secretary — Bombay Ophthalmologists' Association
Served as Secretary of Mumbai's premier ophthalmology professional body — organising conferences, facilitating peer learning and representing the association's members. Surgeons who lead their professional community stay at the frontier of their field.
  • Research
    20+ Peer-Reviewed Publications
Authored and co-authored over 20 research papers in national and international ophthalmology journals. Regular presenter at AIOS (All India Ophthalmological Society) conferences — practice informed by evidence, not convention alone.

Ask patients what they remember about Dr. Modi and a pattern emerges: he explains in your language — Hindi, Marathi or English — draws what's happening inside your eye, and tells you plainly when you do not need surgery. In an era of package-selling, that honesty is why one patient's family becomes ten referrals.

What Makes Dr. Modi Stand Apart

🏛️ International Fellowship — Rare in Western Suburbs

FRCS Glasgow and ICO Fellowship are international surgical credentials held by very few ophthalmologists practising in Mumbai's Western Suburbs. Both require rigorous examination and practical assessment at an international standard — not just attendance at a course.

📚 20+ Published Research Papers

Research-active surgeons make better decisions — their practice is built on evidence they helped generate, not only on what they were taught in residency. Dr. Modi's published output covers refractive surgery outcomes, retinal interventions and ophthalmic clinical trials.

🔬 Full-Spectrum Care Under One Roof

Refractive surgery, retina, cataract, glaucoma, paediatric eye care and corneal disease — managed in-house at Sentra Clinic, Malad East. OCT, topography, laser, operation theatre and consultation are all on-site. No sending patients to different centres for different problems.

📍 Expert Care in Malad — Not South Mumbai

International-fellowship-level care was previously accessible only at premium hospitals in South Mumbai or Navi Mumbai. At Sentra Clinic, it is available to patients from Malad, Goregaon, Kandivali, Borivali and across the Western Suburbs — without a 2-hour commute or a 3-month wait.

What Patients Say

"My LASIK was done by Dr. Modi at Sentra. No pain, no fear — he explained every step before and during the procedure. I was –5.25 in both eyes. The next morning I could read the clock across the room. I referred my wife and two colleagues. None of us have had any issues in two years."

— Vinay Agarwal, Malad East · LASIK Surgery (–5.25 D both eyes)

"My mother had a retinal detachment — the most frightening eye emergency we had ever faced. Dr. Modi operated the same evening, explaining exactly what he was doing and what to expect. Her vision recovered to the point where she can read without glasses. His calmness and precision in an emergency were remarkable."

— Priya Nair, Kandivali West · Retinal Detachment Surgery

"I had been told by two other doctors that my –14 power was too high for LASIK. Dr. Modi did a detailed assessment and said I was a suitable ICL candidate. The ICL surgery changed my life — I went from thick glasses to perfect vision. The consultation was thorough and honest. He told me what I could and couldn't do, and the result matched exactly."

— Rahul Mehta, Goregaon East · ICL Surgery (–14 D high myopia)

Can Dr. Modi assess whether I am suitable for LASIK?

Absolutely. Refractive surgery candidacy assessment — including corneal topography, pachymetry (thickness), pupil size measurement and tear-film evaluation — is central to his practice. He will tell you honestly whether LASIK, Contoura, ICL or no surgery at all is the right choice for your specific eyes.

I have a very high power (above –8). Can he help?

Yes. Patients with high myopia (–8 to –20 D and above) who are not LASIK candidates are often excellent ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) candidates. Dr. Modi has extensive experience with ICL surgery for high myopia. The assessment determines eligibility and the best procedure for your specific power and corneal parameters.

Which languages does Dr. Modi consult in?

Hindi, Marathi and English — he explains diagnoses and procedures in the language you think and ask questions in, adapting based on what makes the patient most comfortable.
